Virginia drops multiple places in CNBC’s Top States for Business

Virginia's neighbor North Carolina claimed the top spot for 2025, CNBC revealed Thursday. Last year, Virginia barely beat then No. 2 North Carolina. The cable and satellite business news TV channel reported the results from aboard the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington. The network's study scores all 50 states on 135 metrics across 10 categories of competitiveness. Virginia scored 1,578 out of a possible 2,500 points, ranking No. 1 for education and second for infrastructure. The state also ranked in the top 10 for quality of life, technology and innovation, business friendliness and access to capital. Rusty Carter, former Virginia Gazette editor, dies at 63

Graham "Rusty" Carter Jr. died Nov. 6 from complications from an illness. He was 63. Carter, a native of Portsmouth and an Old Dominion University graduate, spent 28 years at The Gazette before his departure in 2015. He got his start covering high school football games for The Virginian-Pilot before becoming sports editor for the Suffolk News Herald, then moved to The Gazette to become its sports editor in 1987. When I first got an electric bike a few years ago, I spoke with a police officer about riding on the boardwalk. He said they were more concerned with behavior than the bike itself " speeding or dangerous operation. The pedestrians always have to be safe even if they were walking on the bike path.
